Concept Recharge is Volvo Car’s “Pure Electric Future”

Electrification is more than a shift in powertrains for Volvo, it represents a new paradigm in car design.

With the Volvo Concept Recharge, Volvo becomes one with the mantra of ”less but better“. This can be seen in how the designers evolved the car’s proportions with larger interior space. “Inside the Concept Recharge, we create a truly Scandinavian living room feeling,” said Robin Page, head of design.

By eschewing the combustion engine, Volvo’s designers were able to extend the wheelbase, which in turn allowed for the repositioning of the seats, optimism the roofline and drop the hood. All while retaining a familiar face.

Volvo has built a solid reputation on vehicle safety, and Concept Recharge intends to carry this into the future. One pillar of this is the use of a LiDAR sensor, built by technology company Luminar, is a cornerstone to forthcoming safe autonomous drive technology. It will be placed on top of the roof to collect data on the environment around the car.

How Robin Page sums up Concept Recharge? ”It represents everything we believe customers expect from a pure electric Volvo and we’re excited to take this philosophy into our next generation of cars.”
